: Thanks for the interview Josh. Can you please give the readers a description of yourself?

JD: No problems. I am 27 years old and have lived here on the Coast for 3 years and live here with my wife Cassie. I am a Graphic Designer by trade and I am also in the process of launching my own bodybuilding / fitness website.

: How long have you been into bodybuilding/weight training?

JD: All up now, probably about 10 years. I remember those footy training sessions where you would hit the weights but its really only since moving to the Coast that I have become serious about it.

: Have you always been strong?

JD: Yes and No. While I have never been the strongest guy around, I was never the 50kg weakling either. I am always trying to get stronger though.

: Tell us about how you got into bodybuilding?

JD: I just never liked what I saw in the mirror. I wanted to be bigger and that's what led me to the gym. It's only now that my perception is changing somewhat. Whilst its still a 'physical' thing, I get off more on the mental side of training. Going in each week and going harder, getting better results from the previous week is what gets me going now. It's that accomplishment which I enjoy more than anything.

: How did it feel winning the INBA QLD contest?

JD: Totally blown away. I was pretty confident that I would be in condition, and whilst I hoped to win, it was still unexpected. Winning the Overall was the icing on the cake - Especially when this was only my 3rd show.

: What is your favourite lift?

JD: Anything heavy. I love the feeling when you pick up the weight, from the very first rep you are really pushing hard. This becomes a mental thing where you gotta dig deep and just go for it. As for my favourite lift, it would probably be Stiff Leg Deadlifts, or Dumbell Curls.

: What's your training philosophy?

JD: Hard and Heavy. I follow the Max-OT program, endorsed by AST Sport Science. It basically states using heavy, compound movements in a 4-6 rep range, with no more that 6-9 total sets for each body part. There are a lot of sceptics out there who say that there is a better way to train but I doubt it. By training this way you will build more muscle quicker than any other way possible - guaranteed.

: What about supplements?

JD: I put a very big emphasis on quality supplementation on a consistent basis. Put it this way, if you are training for a comp, why follow the McDonalds diet for 9 months of the year and then do the traditional 12 week pre-contest period. All that really happens is that you limit your prep to 12 weeks. As you well know, my pre-contest for 2002 lasted 8 months. Everyone thought I was crazy but all I did was structure my diet in a way that enabled me to build muscle and lose fat right up until contest time. This just makes sense to me. Why waste time following an inefficient approach.

: What's for the future?

JD: Well, I am already in Pre-Contest mode for 2003. I will be competing in the 2003 QLD Musclemania in September. Hopefully I will do well enough to qualify for the main show in Melbourne in October. But for now, I am just concentrating on September. After all the comps are over, I am going on a very, very long holiday.

: Any final words?

JD: Firstly, I would just like to thank you (QLD's best supplement store) for all the support you gave me through 2002. Without you, it would have been a whole lot harder. My sponsor, Southern Blue.
